Osteoid osteomas of the spine typically are located on the concave side of a painful scoliosis, and should be excluded in all children and young adults who present with unexplained back pain or painful scoliosis. 124 Osteoblastomas also are associated with scoliosis but do not exhibit a predilection for the concave side.
